Palestinian Artist

Tayseer Barakat was born in Jabalia Refugee Camp in Gaza in 1959. He received a BA in Oil Painting from the College of Fine Arts in Alexandria, Egypt and a diploma from UNESCO in Art Education.

Tayseer Barakat is one of Palestine's most respected artists. In his work the social life of the refugee camp is portrayed through silhouettes of dramatic dark and light contrast. Various shapes arranged in rows narrate a story. Barakat says, "the ancients utilized rhythm as the infrastructure of the story. Barakat says, row after row of pictorial narrative. The horizontal rows forn a time-line for the events of life… The rhythm of the art is the rhythm of life."
